Successful Negotiation: Essential Strategies and Skills is an online course offered by the University of Michigan. The class is intended for individuals who are new to negotiating as well as for seasoned negotiators that want to develop their skills further. Individuals who work or plan to work in the corporate world will find the course most beneficial.
Taught by George Siedel, the Williamson Family Professor of Business Administration and Thurnau Professor of Business Law at the University of Michigan, Successful Negotiation: Essential Strategies and Skills gives students the opportunity to learn from one of the preeminent experts in negotiation tactics. The class lasts for 7 weeks and requires 75 minutes of study time per week. Lectures are presented on videos in English. Ukrainian, Portuguese, Chinese, Russian and Spanish subtitles are available.
Successful Negotiation: Essential Strategies and Skills is broken into five modules: Welcome to Successful Negotiation!; Prepare: Plan Your Negotiation Strategy; Negotiate: Use Key Tactics for Success; Close: Create a Contract; and Perform and Evaluate: The End Game. Each module includes reading assignments and practice quizzes to deepen students’ knowledge and evaluate their mastery of the course material.
During the sixth week of Successful Negotiation: Essential Strategies and Skills, students have an opportunity to practice their negotiation skills with another student in the class or with a friend or family member. The course culminates with a 75-minute final examination given online during the seventh week of the class. Those who pass the exam will receive a passing grade in the course.
