Be Ready: Staying Safe During Disasters is a free online self-improvement course offered by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The purpose of the class is to help students take the steps necessary to prepare for disasters and to take action in the face of imminent threats to protect their family members. Anyone can benefit from the course; however, the class will be especially beneficial for health care professionals and educators.
Lasting for just two weeks, Be Ready: Staying Safe During Disasters provides in-depth information in the form of easy-to-watch video lectures. Students will need to spend about two hours on the course each week. The class covers emergency preparedness and response for a number of different types of disasters, including earthquakes, extreme temperatures, flooding, tsunamis, and hurricanes. By the end of the course, students will have put together a disaster kit and created a personal and family disaster response plan. Those who successfully complete the course can pay a fee to receive a verified certificate.
