Internships are a great opportunity to get the first-hand experience in non-profit organizations and help the people in need at the same time. Not every internship position is paid, but some cover travel or accommodation costs. Here are 10 NGO Internships in Zimbabwe.

Tariro House of Hope

Tariro House of Hope is an NGO based in Zimbabwe which works in the field of child rights and aims to reduce the impact of poverty on children. THH has two different Internship Programs, Zimbabwe Internship Program (ZIP) is opened for young people who live in Zimbabwe and can work there and the Virtual Internship Program (VIP), which welcomes applicants from all around the world who has internet access and a computer. Both Internship Programs are accepting interns for the following positions: Admin & Research Assistant, Accounting Officer, Community Relations & Partnerships Associate, Food and Nutrition Coordinator, Fundraising Officer, Graphic Designer, Human Resources Intern, Marketing & Public Relations Intern, Social Media Intern, and others. THH offers first-hand experience to the interns interested to be directly involved in the work of the NGO sector and who wish to gain experience in a small, but effective non-profit organization. Responsibilities depend on the experience and interests of the applicants likewise the duration of the internship, while applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Interns are expected to follow the rules of confidentiality integrity and ethical standards of the organization and are expected to possess knowledge of the English language. Knowledge of written/spoken Shona, Ndebele, Dutch and/or other languages is an asset but is not required. THH does not offer financial assistance.

African Bush Camps Foundation

African Bush Camps Foundation is committed to sustainable development, through creating various programs, projects, and opportunities that empower rural communities located in vulnerable wildlife areas in Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Zambia. ABCF works in the field of education, community empowerment, community infrastructure, and conservation. Since 2012, African Bush Camps Foundation has partnered with the Precious Life Foundation to provide opportunities for young ladies to go onboard on 6-month hospitality and catering attachments at the African Bush Camps properties. Since then 23 internships have been effectively finalized, while six of interns were offered full-time employment with African Bush Camps as a result. Mother Helpers: SOS Children’s Villages Association of Zimbabwe

SOS Children’s Villages Association of Zimbabwe is a member of SOS International – a worldwide children’s social welfare organization that focuses on vulnerable children to provide them a home, guardians and education opportunities. The Association has established Community Outreach Programs in three villages in Zimbabwe to assist and support children with needs, in particular, families headed by a child, a grandparent or by a single parent who is terminally ill. SOS Children’s Villages Association of Zimbabwe doesn’t have an official internship program but opens internship positions when there is a need. Makomborero

Makomborero means “blessings” in the local Zimbabwean language, Shona and it is a UK based Charity that helps to relieve poverty through education in Zimbabwe. The organization works in partnership to support various initiatives in Zimbabwe which allow the fulfillment of its objectives. Makomborero searches for interested volunteers and interns to join their team and help the organization’s work. There are different opportunities available, from teaching positions to technical positions. These are some of the areas that volunteers could serve in Volunteer teaching at our annual revision schools in August every year, one-on-one tuition with students, visiting rural schools and helping improve their facilities, building relationships with Makomborero students, maintenance on the Boarding house or fundraising. Zimbabwe Educational Trust

Zimbabwe Educational Trust is a Yorkshire based charity created by Zimbabweans for Zimbabweans to help vulnerable young people in the field of education or vocational skills and to empower them to discover a future that frees them from the oppression of poverty. ZET is searching for Communications & Marketing Intern, who will be responsible for the ZET’s website and online marketing. This is a 3 month, unpaid internship that may be interesting for young people with strong creative and design skills, knowledge of online marketing and new media, and for those looking to gain professional experience in this area. The recruitment is ongoing and there is no deadline to apply. Interested applicants should send their CV and any examples of creative design, such as websites previously developed. ZET also searched for a Fundraising Officer & Events Coordinator intern, who would work closely with the organization’s fundraising team. In comparison with the first internship, Fundraising Interns can work from home and be based anywhere. The main responsibilities of this role are to recruit individuals to join ZET program and to raise awareness of ZET’s work. The position would be ideal for outgoing individuals with a passion for international development who are looking to gain experience in the non-profit sector. The application process is the same.

Oasis Zimbabwe

Oasis Zimbabwe is part of the Oasis global family Oasis Charitable Trust 2015, a non-profit organization that seeks empower impoverished children to start in education by establishing pre-schools in partnership with local churches in the high-density suburbs of Harare. In Epworth, the most deprived community in Harare, Oasis has a hub that utilizes sports with youth to develop life-skills, reduce HIV and AIDS and encourage entrepreneurship. Focus is put on practical and vocational skills training for vulnerable girls, and safe home, with rehabilitation and training for former street girls as well. Although there is no internship program, Oasis invites interested people to get in touch with the organization and fill in the form on the website.

Chiedza Child Care Centre

Chiedza Child Care Centre (CCCC) is a local non-governmental organization registered in 2003 that works in various thematic areas – Education, Health and nutrition, Child protection and Economic strengthening. CCCC operates in Harare South and Zvimba district to provide access to quality education, protection, and health and nutrition services. The current six client communities identified by CCCC are any child below the age of 18 who is vulnerable, children who are out of school, children living with HIV and exposed, children with disabilities and abused Children and those at risk. Each program delivered by the Chiedza Child Care Centre NGO is to provide key services to children in difficult circumstances. Takeshe Foundation

The Takeshe Foundation is a non-profit organization from Zimbabwe which aims to empower the people in the rural areas of the Chipinge district by providing and promoting economic empowerment, advocating literacy and higher education for both boys and girls and assisting AIDS/HIV patients and their families with social-economic help. The Foundation is guided by honesty, transparency, integrity, empathy and life-long learning. There are different programs organized by the Takeshe Foundation which welcome donations from around the world. Save the Children International

Save the Children helps children living in poverty with a mission to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. There are various internship positions within different areas, such as Education, Child Protection, Nutrition, Supply Chain (Logistics), Finance and others. Interested applicants must have computer literacy, understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values, and principles related to the organization’s work, demonstrated a willingness to learn and furthermore must have a high degree of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism. Interns work under minimum supervision and often have to meet tight deadlines. International Rescue Committee (IRC)

The International Rescue Committee answers to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and aims to help people who suffered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and gain control of their future. IRC works in more than 40 countries, including Zimbabwe from 2008. The Committee aims to provide clean water, shelter, health care, education and empowerment support to refugees and displaced people. IRC offers different internship positions, depending on the current needs.
