The Art of Negotiation is an online course offered by the University of California, Irvine. The class is intended for individuals who work in corporate settings or who aspire to work in the world of business in the future. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to negotiate effectively to ensure fair outcomes for all participants. No previous coursework or business experience is required to succeed in the course.
Students have the option to take The Art of Negotiation on its own or as one of the 10 courses in the Career Success Specialization certificate program offered by the University of California, Irvine. The class includes 4 to 8 hours of videos, readings and quizzes. For convenience, the course is broken into four modules, which can be completed on a once-per-week basis over the period of a month; however, the class is entirely self-paced. Students can choose to complete the course in an entire sitting or another schedule that is convenient for them.
At the beginning of The Art of Negotiation, students learn what negotiating means and why it is important to business success. During the second week, the course focuses on factors that can influence outcomes and what considerations need to be made to mitigate factors that can lead to undesirable outcomes. The third week deals with how individuals and teams can function as negotiators. In the final week, students learn how to prepare and plan for negotiations and implement their strategies at the negotiation table.
